Throwback Thursday - Bluebonnets & Boots
Some memories just stick with you—the kind that feel like sunshine and the smell of spring. This one takes me back to a quiet little green space in South Austin, where my two oldest kiddos—ages 4 and 8 at the time—stumbled upon the prettiest patch of bluebonnets on a neighborhood walk.
We were visiting friends, enjoying that easy pace of a warm Texas morning, when we turned a corner and spotted that sea of blue right there in the ‘burbs. Of course, I couldn’t resist pulling out my phone. The kids, in their dusty cowboy boots and sweet smiles, waded in without hesitation. It wasn’t planned or posed— and Sophie’s little pocket bandana gets me every time.
Now that we’re raising our family in rural Alberta, these memories hit a little different. Spring still shows up—eventually—but the bluebonnets don’t. I like to think I carried a little piece of Texas with me when I moved north. Every time I see these old photos - little glimpses of Texas, now years and miles away - I feel a little tug on the ol’ heart strings.
But that’s the beauty of bluebonnets—they don’t need to last forever to leave an impression. Just like childhood, they’re fleeting and wild and beautiful while they’re here.
Here’s to boots in the bluebonnets, the magic of Texas springs, and the kind of memories that bloom again every time we look back.

P.S. National Sibling day seemed like the perfect time to share this little trip down memory lane 🫶🏼
